Baptism

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons (and daughters) of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission…” Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 1213)

Internal Procedures by secretary/priest for Baptism Preparation
Internal Procedures by secretary/priest for Baptism Preparation
- Parents who request the Sacrament of Baptism for their child will need to come to the parish office or make virtual arrangements to meet with one of the priests first and at which point the following will occur:
- Office staff will provide the guidelines for baptism to parents (that will be available on the parish website).
- Parents will fill out or update the baptism registration form.
- Office staff will provide to parents the information of both couples who are teaching the class in English so the parents and or the Godparents can schedule the class time directly with the couple they select. (If both parents and Godparents are from this area, they need to schedule their class at the same time if possible.)
- If the class is to be taken in Spanish, it will be on the first Thursday of the month in the basement of the Church at 5:00 p.m.
- After a class is given, the instructor, either in English or Spanish, will inform the parish secretary about the completed preparation.
- Classes are expected to be taken in person. If a person/couple has a particular issue in attending, that person/couple needs to please contact the pastor.
- If a situation is discovered which needs the attention of the pastor, please inform him.
- Call Spanish Coordinator (Rosa Ramirez) each month to inform her or the names of the people attending Baptism preparation in Spanish.
- Office staff will collect the proper documents and then schedule the baptism no later than the day after all the documents are collected.
- Office staff will create the Baptismal Certificate and place it in the sacristy the day of Baptism.
- Write the Baptism information in the Sacramental book the first Monday after the baptism takes place.
- If a Baptism, for any reason, needs to be rescheduled, office staff will contact the family as soon as possible.
